Even Reddit, our beloved place for exposing injustices, has become overrun with trolls, bots, mods who are just a little too apt to censor what they are intellectually incapable of understanding (the big picture). What is the best browser and vpn combination for safe and anonymous browsing?

Basically my question is summarized in the title of this post- what is the best vpn and web browser to use if you want to stay anonymous online and as safe as possible from malware? Currently running Brave and Express VPN. I realize the whole "safety is an illusion" and "nothing is full-proof" perspective - I get that. But I'm just looking for whatever combination is most recommended.

Introducing: Anonymous Browsing on Android

Introducing: Anonymous Browsing on Android
We’re introducing a new browsing mode, called Anonymous Browsing, that gives you even more control of your privacy on Reddit’s mobile apps.
What is Anonymous Browsing Anonymous Browsing allows you to browse content on the Reddit mobile app without associating your activity (like your searches or the communities you view) with your Reddit account.
More specifically, while you’re using Anonymous Browsing, Reddit won’t:
  • Save your browsing or search history to your Reddit account
  • Use your Reddit activity to personalize your recommendations
  • Use your Reddit activity to send you personalized notifications
When and how you can start using it
In the coming days, Anonymous Browsing will be available on Android (the iOS version is still in the works and will be available around July or August). To access this feature, tap on your profile picture and then tap on your username to open a list of your accounts. You’ll notice that the new Anonymous Browsing option (next to the Snoo in the fancy teal sunglasses) has replaced the old anonymous option (the Snoo with a bag over its head).
Here’s what it looks like:
https://preview.redd.it/wfr5s14g4q551.png?width=1028&format=png&auto=webp&s=6c43e2410d59bf9c56cc0c96d67524aa537ad69d
You can use Anonymous Browsing for as long as you’d like and then go back to your primary Reddit account when you’re ready to engage with your username. While you’re Anonymous Browsing, you can’t post, vote, comment, or take any other actions that would normally be tied to your account. And if you’re inactive for more than 30 minutes, your Anonymous Browsing session will end and you’ll be returned to the account you were using previously.
How does Anonymous Browsing work
The prior anonymous option was designed as a simple way to browse Reddit as if you were logged out of your account. The new Anonymous Browsing is a bit more sophisticated (and not just because Snoo’s rocking some new teal glasses). Here’s how it works:
  1. When you start an Anonymous Browsing session, the session is assigned a new set of unique IDs, so that there’s no connection between that session and your Reddit account. It’s like you’re creating a new account with a new set of IDs every time you start an Anonymous Browsing session.
  2. Because of the unique IDs, Reddit’s personalization engine resets every time you enter and exit the mode (to the engine, during an Anonymous Browsing session, you look like a newbie, with no search history).
  3. While in Anonymous Browsing, you also won’t get personalized push notifications based on your Reddit activity during the session (any personalized notifications you receive during Anonymous Browsing would be related to prior activity associated with your logged in Reddit accounts).
  4. When you exit an Anonymous Browsing session, you are returned to the Reddit account you were previously using, and Reddit clears and deletes the browsing and search history for the session off the device you’re using. Any data collected during the session is only connected to the unique IDs, not your Reddit account.
Keep in mind that using Anonymous Browsing on Reddit doesn’t affect how your activity is handled by internet providers, your mobile device, or other websites you may visit in or from the Reddit mobile app (including via the in-app browser).
We hope you enjoy using this feature and having more control over your privacy on Reddit. If you have more questions, I’ll be sticking around to answer them.

The "anonymous" profile is a profile that everyone has and can post/browse on. But because it has the exact same name with everyone it's technically a shared account for all reddit users. So anyways what have you guys been doing on our shared account?

What is the point of "anonymous" browsing via Brave if you can't get your BAT without giving away your anonymity to Uphold?

Seriously, when is this likely to be fixed? I just spoke with the lovely folks at Uphold, and they now want me to send them a copy of my address and latest bank statement or utility bill. Really? You mean my passport isn't enough?
I love the idea of Brave Browser, but I see no justification for rendering the whole thing pointless by giving Uphold your personal identity and information. I'd never even heard of Uphold before. Why the hell would I feel comfortable sending them my passport and actual address?

What is the safest way to browse the web anonymously?

I know Tor with a half vpn is most people's go to but what about just surfing the regular web? Is there anyway to do that anonymously? I've tried using different search engines (duckduckgo for example) but I find myself using Google sometimes still as I feel it is superior for certain things (I.e. finding good restaurants in your area)
Please don't ban me if this is a stupid question or against the rules. I genuinely want to learn.

What is the best VPN/Tor combination for anonymous browsing.

I have been looking around for information on an a good anonymous browsing routine. I have gotten a number of different suggests, but I am still confused as to which is the best use of ToVPN. Options seem to be things like.
  1. Just VPN
  2. Just Tor
  3. VPN>>Tor
  4. Tor>>VPN
  5. VPN 1VPN 2Tor
  6. VPN 1TorVPN 2
Etc.
Assuming best practices (anonymous payment, burner emails, etc) what is the best setup if my goal are, from most to least important, are.
  1. Protecting/Encrypting and Anonymizing by online activity (Hiding what I'm saying, downloading, visiting, etc from ISP, government, criminals)
  2. Obfuscating my anonymization (Hiding the fact that I'm trying to hide.
  3. Speed (last, but obviously more is better)
I am looking for solution for OS X and for Android (on cellular and Wifi).
Also, I'm wondering if it is possible to have a higher speed/lower security option, and max security option on the same device without contaminating/corrupting the more secure one.

Does this sound like everything I'll need to browse the dark web safely and anonymously, and what type of bridge is the most secure?

-Tails on a USB -Correctly configured TOR -A obsf4 bridge
Is obsf4 the safest bridge to use for my home private network? My ISP DOES NOT block TOR, so I have no restrictions to get around. It is simply a matter of which type of bridge that's supported by tails is the most secure. From what I've read obsf4 is the most secure, but let me know if I'm wrong! ELI5: Is it possible to browse the internet with what is effectively complete anonymity, and if so how?

Hi all, apologies if this isn't the best place to post this - please let me know a better place if so.
I'm curious what you all have to say about the possibility of absolute anonymity regarding browsing the internet and/or online activity in general.
As a side note, here is a quick video with one person's view that online anonymity is actually impossible (Youtuber Elithecomputerguy) which caught my eye and got me thinking. What are your thoughts on it:

"For example, it is easy to imagine questions that combine both advertiser and user variables. At FAN, this typically means hitting the fact tables directly. For instance, one question that is easy for a salesperson to pose is: How many female WWF enthusiasts under the age of 30 visited the Toyota community over the last four days and saw a medium rectangle? Whew, it’s been a crazy two weeks! Here at Reddit we’ve been hard at work and have some fun stuff to share with you today. Let’s just jump in, shall we?
We shall.

Here’s what went out January 6th–19th

All about those avatars Avatars are great, but they can always be better. That’s why we’ve made some new expansions and improvements.
https://preview.redd.it/c374krzzxcc61.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=6e20d032618b3590a6bcb818d84da6a039b04e20
  • Better, faster, stronger… We’ve updated the foundational tech that makes avatars work so they can be more scalable, secure, and have better telemetry. This may sound like boring engineering stuff to some but this work means that you can do important things like change the color of your beard without changing the color of your hair or hold something in your right hand without canceling out what you’re holding in your left hand.
  • Avatars aren’t just fun, they’re also functional. We’ve already added profile images and avatars to comment threads on Android and mobile web, and this week they rolled out to desktop as well. (Don’t worry iOS, you’re next.) We’ve found this helps people visually track the back and forth in a conversation, and it also results in more profile views and people starting chats with each other—so avatars are actually helping redditors connect.
A notification about your notifications An updated interface and more control over what notifications you receive is on the way.
  • First off, you’ll be getting a new notification inbox soon, complete with profile and community images and the ability to hide and manage notifications in-line. We’re rolled out to 5% on iOS, Android, and desktop now, and are testing things to make sure there aren’t any major bugs or improvements we need to make before rolling out further. Here’s what it looks like on iOS:
https://preview.redd.it/62bmoqmdycc61.png?width=1464&format=png&auto=webp&s=305ebbcf71a2bde014cf1f34f44eb8753863a106
  • Next, you can’t have a new inbox without new user settings as well. Now you can control what inbox notifications and emails you’d like to receive from the mobile web, iOS, Android, and desktop.
https://preview.redd.it/y7wwk5zaycc61.png?width=1463&format=png&auto=webp&s=e71e9caaba953200731d1eaf0ad320a2dafb0f70
Rolling out to new platforms We’re expanding two features that were mentioned in previous updates, so we can gather more information on how they're performing and make them available to more people.
  • Now redditors on Android and desktop have the ability to sign up or log in to their account with a magic link—a link we send to your email address that lets you access your Reddit account with one click. (This is already out on iOS.)
  • New redditors on Android, mobile web, and desktop will now be able to select more detailed subtopics they’re interested in, instead of super general ones, after creating their accounts. (This is already out on iOS.)
And a few more miscellaneous items
  • What’s better than best? An improved best sort! We’re running an A/B test where the best sort on comment threads will prioritize comments with a high upvote ratio. The idea is that this will help high-quality comments that don’t have a lot of views yet get the attention they deserve. (It’s a very subtle change, but we think it’ll make our best sort even better.)
  • Previously, the award sheet you see on post and comments was different than what you saw while awarding a live video. Now we’ve cleaned them up to be the same.
  • For the next two weeks, we’re testing giving logged out redditors on the mobile web various offers and rewards if they download the app for the first time and log in to their account. This limited test will go to 25% of mobile web users.
  • If you haven’t verified your account with an email yet, you should. (Verifying your account gives you a way to log in if you forget your password, and helps ensure you won’t get locked out of your account.) We’re reminding redditors who haven’t verified their account yet to do so, using a dismissible banner on iOS.
Bugs and small fixes Here’s what’s up with the native apps:
iOS bug fixes:
  • Blurred NSFW images in a media gallery will unblur after they’re viewed in theatre mode now
  • You can search for posts by filtering by date again
  • When you scroll up on a chat it won’t jump you to the most recent message anymore
  • The app won’t crash while watching videos anymore
  • Reddit live streams will play with the correct color theme now
  • Opening comment threads with permalinks won’t crash the app now
Android updates and fixes:
  • The pop up asking you to rate the app will show up less often now
  • Push notifications open correctly for everyone again
  • Chat notification badges update consistently again
  • The exit button works while Anonymous Browsing again
Hope you have a great week. As always, we’ll be around for a bit to answer your questions.

The Daily Check-In for Sunday, February 14th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking!

*We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we're here together!*

**Welcome to the 24 hour pledge!**

I'm pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.

Maybe you're new to /stopdrinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you're like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you've been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.

It doesn't matter if you're still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, lets not drink alcohol!

---

**This pledge is a statement of intent.** Today we don't set out *trying* not to drink, we make a conscious decision *not to drink*. It sounds simple, but all of us know it can be hard and sometimes impossible. The group can support and inspire us, yet only one person can decide if we drink today. Give that person the right mindset!

What happens if we can't keep to our pledge? We give up or try again. And since we're here in /stopdrinking, we're not ready to give up.

**What this is:** A simple thread where we commit to not drinking alcohol for the next 24 hours, posting to show others that they're not alone and making a pledge to ourselves. Anybody can join and participate at any time, you do not have to be a regular at /stopdrinking or have followed the pledges from the beginning.

**What this isn't:** A good place for a detailed introduction of yourself, directly seek advice or share lengthy stories. You'll get a more personal response in your own thread.

---

This post goes up at:

- US - Night/Early Morning
- Europe - Morning
- Asia and Australia - Evening/Night

A link to the current Daily Check-In post can always be found near the top of the sidebar.

Hi everyone. I’m EffortCareless. It’s nice to meet you. It’s nice to be here, hosting the DCI again. I can’t believe that it’s been almost five months since I last hosted, five more sober months spent with you fine people. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a wonderful community and look forward to sharing my thoughts with you this week. There will be plenty of light fare. Some heavy stuff. There will be ghosts. Zombies. A bit on sober spaces, time, and finances. And I dunno, whatever else comes across this sober mind of mine. So without further ado…

About a month into my sobriety I was frantically looking for a book in my bedroom, thrashing about and turning the room upside down trying to find it. I really needed that book. While searching the closet I came across a crumpled green t-shirt, what used to be one of my favorite articles of clothing because I thought it captured my personality in such a witty, cute way. “I’m outdoorsy in that I like getting drunk on patios,” it read. I used to actually wear this. I used to actually think it was funny (OK it is *kind* of funny given that prior to getting sober the only time you’d catch me outdoors was literally on a patio somewhere getting wasted). I noticed several wine stains splattered across the front of it. And its dank ripeness caused me to throw it in disgust. “I used to be the person who wore this silly, sodden, foul shirt,” I mumbled in disbelief before tossing it in the trash (I momentarily considered ceremoniously burning it as some kind of symbolic gesture).

I was surprised to find that shirt, the last material trace of my drunken debauchery remaining in my apartment. When I decided to quit drinking I removed everything that could possibly remind me of drink so as to avoid physical triggers. I think I had read this advice when googling “how to quit smoking cigarettes,” and, although the strategy didn’t help me stop smoking (I just keep buying more lighters), I figured it would help me abstain from the booze. A bewildering array of shirts and hats boasting beer logos were donated. Five (five!) very elaborate corkscrews were discarded. Why would someone have five corkscrews, you ask? One for each room, including the bathroom, and one for the car because drinking wine in a parking lot was the kind of thing I used to do. I sold my beloved Game of Thrones themed wine goblets. I even got rid of a poster above my writing desk of Hemingway in Spain drinking wine straight from the bottle, as well as a smaller one quoting him as saying “My only regret in life is that I did not drink more wine.” I once looked to these for inspiration, thinking that literary genius awaited me if I just drank some more wine. And then there was the very chic bartender set I bought online while intoxicated in an effort to lend an air of sophistication to my den of iniquity. To, ya know, entertain. Wayfair most definitely does not have what I need when drunk browsing. That had to go, along with all my aspirations for becoming a mean mixologist.

When I look around my place now I’m amazed by the changes my environment has undergone since quitting drinking. A kind of purging has occurred that reflects my inner transformation, an exorcism of sorts on all fronts. It’s almost as if a different person lives here. And I guess, in a way, they do. A cleaner, more responsible, and dare I say, more adult human being. It’s very…what’s the word? Oh yeah. Salubrious. My living space is salubrious. No more random empty wine bottles floating around. Or beer caps strewn about waiting to pierce the soles of my feet. There may be some stray coffee beans scattered here and there that I use for the sweet espresso machine I purchased with some of the money I’ve saved from not drinking (thanks Wayfair!). In a very objective, tangible sense I have turned things around. I no longer have anything to hide if surprised by an unexpected visitor. What I do have is peace of mind. And a really good cup of coffee. I think I’ll go out on my patio and strum that ukulele I bought while drunk (ok so there’s one relic left from that bygone era). I’ll just play myself out if you don’t mind. This one’s for all you sweethearts out there…

….We’re gonna live forever, knowing together that we did it all for the glory of love….

I can’t wait to hear about your nonalcoholic aesthetics and alcohol free dwellings, the lovely external manifestations of your inner revolutions.
Have a wonderful Sunday. Happy Valentine’s. IWNDWYT!

Well, this is quite telling, no agenda that the author is selling...

Curiosity killed the cat, and I guess I meow'd, Why is Scopely naively culling their crowd? I browsed for reviews and was looking for more, After some cues, I looked on glassdoor. Honest review? Most of them not, But then I found one, my attention it got. Take a gander and read it sounds really true, It explains a lot from an employee's point of view. A money-grubbing company with only one goal, PMs who'd do anything, probably even selling their soul. This would explain the shitty events that we've had, Stuff like, "Power Cores to hit daily milestones" that make me sad. There's a link at the bottom so you can verifies, It's hard to read with my really red eyes.

I have been working at Scopely full-time
Pros
The company culture itself is great, and there are wonderfully talented people on each team in design, art, ux, research, and engineering. They provide free lunch. The facilities are large and despite the flaws in their games, they're making stupid amounts of money, so if you keep your head down and avoid confrontation (i.e an opinion), you can probably be comfortable for a while at Scopely.
Cons
Take a very close look at the fact that the positive reviews are all from Product Managers, and anything negative is from a different position. Even when they're anonymous, you can tell from the catchy words like "growth", "initiative", "elevation", "synergy", etc. You know, the kind of things people who want you to buy what they're selling would say. That is because Scopely is a political minefield where Product Managers reign supreme. If you don't play the game and put up any resistance to a decision a PM makes, your time at the company is limited and they *will* find a bus to throw you under and force you out. People here are exhausted by the politics and being forced to implement every idea conceived by a PM, good or bad. If something good happens to an app's revenue or retention, a PM will get the credit. If something bad happens (maybe a feature/event doesn't do so great, or there's a dip in revenue, etc), it's design/art/ux/the janitor's fault. PMs have gotten credit for features that were finished before their first day of work. We can't make the time to fix or improve something that would lead to a better user experience and overall game, but we can drag out the development of a game for an extra year so that a PM can make their team drop everything to copy mechanics and/or features from the latest app that they've downloaded. PMs have a special bonus structure that they reap the benefits of, because they control the development schedule and can manipulate it to ensure they hit their 'goals' to get that $$$. An entry level PM will not only make more money than anybody else on the team, but have more power than a seniodirector level of any other role. Scopely will nickel and dime salary offers for any other department, but a PM can come in easily making 180k+ (because a VP/Director level PM ultimately signs off on any new hire on a team), and they'll get a senioVP/duke title without resistance. PMs get promotions and raises several times a year, but you'll find people in many other positions who have never gotten a raise, and have to fight tooth and nail for title promotion. Product managers have the power to veto literally any creative decision, whether it is design, ui/ux, or art. The company is bleeding designers specifically, because PMs are either finding manipulative ways to fire/drive them out of the company when they stand their ground on perspectives that conflict with what a PM order, or they are simply giving up and leaving. To them designers are, at best, a decoration that exists to write documentation and influence team morale. A designer who expects to create engaging, innovative experiences should look elsewhere because you will just be asked to copy some feature from another app that will probably have nothing in common with yours. If the art team wants something green and product wants it blue - guess what, you're making it blue but you'll get a stern talking to about being a 'negative impact on the team' for any resistance you might have shown. The craziest thing is, most of the Product Managers at the company have no (or minimal) experience in mobile, and it shows. They have Harvard business degrees and finance backgrounds, but often no clue how difficult or easy many facets of the development process are. And yet, the C-suite thinks they are all prodigies and hands the highest level of power to some of the most inexperienced people in the company. They are also conveniently some of the most volatile personalities at Scopely. Scopely doesn't call itself a "game" company - it's an "experience" company. Their customer base isn't made up of "players", they're "users". Scopely is here to make money regardless of what they have to do to their "users" to squeeze it out of them, and making fun, high quality games is not a part of that deal. It's pretty incredible the amount of resistance there is at this company to give the creative roles the authority to do their jobs, and to keep product managers in their appropriate lane. I'd like to keep my head low, but I'm so sick of seeing good people abused and bullied out of their jobs for trying to do their jobs and make the best games they can. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Advice to Management
You've built a culture where teams are bullied by their Product Managers and GMs. They're terrified of them, because rubbing a PM the wrong way, in ANY way, means a chat with HR about how you're not "aligned with Scopely's culture" and a personal tour to the front door. You've given the most power to the very people who drive your culture down, your talented employees out the door, and the quality of your product south, instead of elevating and celebrating those doing all of the most fundamental work. People have tried to tell you this and your response every time is to have a meeting with the Product Managers and ask what they think. You have never bothered to talk to any other departments at your company about the toxicity of the team structures you've created, and that's telling.

REAL RTA Dataset (8000+ Accounts / 60,000 recent matches)

Hello Epic Gamers,
EDIT: u/kingblair4 made a pretty cool tool with this data that let him do some interesting analysis. Putting it here in case people are interested in some analysis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeLF87JYQxo
Lately I've seen people on this subreddit interested in gathering RTA data and also seen some scuff ways of going about building datasets such as manually logging tournament results, or image-processing Youtube videos.
Ive long hoped that E7 would open up an API for RTA statistics so the community can make some cool tools, though that will never happen.
So, I gathered the RTA Battle Logs of a sample size of 8210 accounts, accounting for a total of ~60k distinct matches and stored them in an sqlite database.
I am primarily posting the data because I hope there are some users who are smarter than me and can do some data anaylsis/visualization.
DATASET CAN BE FOUND HERE - https://gofile.io/d/tam6ke
Some quick notes in Q/A format to for easier browsing -
Q: Why? For a long time I wanted to make a tool for E7 similar to DestinyTrackeFortniteTrackeOP.GG/etc, but I dont really have the time or money right now to commit to a project like that.
Q: What can this dataset be used for? This data is a processed form of the battle logs you can see on your own account when you open up "Battle Logs" in the RTA menu. The data was captured yesterday, 2/7/2021. I don't think this data is particularly useful for analyzing long term trends, however I think it is an interesting dataset to 'snapshot' the meta, at all rankings - hence it is called 'rta_snapshot.db'.
Q: But, muh battle logs / stratz! I anonymized all the data I collected so all you high champ players wont get exposed. If you want to see if your account was sampled for this set here is a list of all accounts that were touched on https://privatebin.net/?381ec799166686b0#58gN6co58peAKx16WXCdzCCucHoCdDyxDu1LVZqUTV84 (expires in a day or so, some of the usernames were too lewd for pastebin lol).
Also, some of you guys have absolutely hilarious in game names. Shoutout to BentaiBaven for cracking me up.
Q: Did you hack my account to get these? No lol.
Q: What is sqlite3? Sqlite is a type of database. If you download the dataset you can open it online at https://sqliteonline.com/ if you are new to sqlite and dont have database tools on your computer.
Q: How do I know this .db file isnt malware? If you don't know how to verify an sqlite .db file is not malware then simply don't download it.
Q: How did you get this data? My uncle works at SG, of course.
Q: Will you share the tools you used to get this data? No, too much potential for misuse. Do not dm me regarding this.
Q: Will you post more of these? If people find this useful I will consider periodically sampling battle logs, maybe bi-monthly or something. It took me about 3-4 hours to collect the logs of 8000+ accounts. I would ballpark that this dataset reflects 10-20% of total accounts with RTA logs I could have processed - but I did not have the patience to let it run for a week. I have also considered collecting legend only battle logs and making an automated "meta report" since it takes far less time.
Here is some basic summary analysis of the dataset. I doubt the results will be all that surprising if you play RTA.
Again, this data is from 60k RECENT matches, encompassing ALL RANKS.

I think there is a whole lot more that can be done with data such as getting WR's for individual units, unit matchups, WR's for pick order, dividing stats by Ranks, etc, etc.
If you have some skills working with data, or just want to peruse it for fun, I hope this post was useful.
