My First Negative Vegan Experience

My wife and I have been vegan for 4 months, and so far it has been a breeze. We’re adults responsible for our own destiny; we decide where we go, what we eat and when, and what we buy, so we haven’t had any difficulties with becoming vegan.
Neither of us take any crap from anyone, so we never have a problem with stupid comments. I work for a small company (about 15 employees) and all my colleagues are pretty smart and respectful (or at least, they know not to be rude to me!). I have not had a single negative comment from any of them since I became vegan. In fact, one of my colleagues said I was, “inspirational” when he found out I was vegan last week; that was a good conversation!
On to the negative experience.... We had planned to meet a few of my wife’s friends / colleagues for an event after work. We didn’t choose the restaurant, but we checked the menu before we went, and there were two vegan dishes on the menu. So far, so good...
My wife and I arrived at the restaurant before everyone else, and we were given a menu without a single vegan meal on it. We asked one of the restaurant staff if they could provide a vegan meal, and she was happy to check with the chef, who offered to prepare vegan meals especially for us, which was great.
Next, the wine-waiter came to our table and asked what we would like to drink. I asked if any of their alcoholic drinks were vegan, and his response was a rude, “No idea”. Because we were expecting our friends to arrive, I chose not to comment on his attitude; I said I’d look at the drinks menu, so he went away. When he returned a few minutes later, to ask if we had chosen our drinks, my wife asked if they served a particular ‘accidentally vegan’ beer that is commonly served in our locality. He sneered, “Don’t serve that”.
At that point, my wife and I looked at each other, stood up and walked away. I spoke to the restaurant manager, who appeared genuinely embarrassed at the way the waiter had spoken to us, and apologised. He asked us to point out the waiter who had been rude to us. We contacted our friends and arranged to meet somewhere else later in the evening.
So, to the wine waiter in the Market & Co restaurant at the Crown Casino in Perth, Western Australia. I hope you had a bad evening, and that your boss explained to you that your job is being polite to customers, even if you have different values to them. Those customers pay your wages. You lost your employer about $800 dollar’s worth of business (in a nearly-empty restaurant), you lost your colleagues about $100 in tips, and you got the restaurant poor reviews from several people. Your behaviour was a minor inconvenience to us, and it didn’t even annoy us; we just found somewhere else to send our money. We are sorry that your life is so sad that you’d risk your job by displaying such childish and petty behaviour.

Stuff To Do in Tucson: January & February 2016

Greetings! Happy New Year /Tucson! It's the JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2016 edition of the Stuff to Do thread! I have to consolidate these two months for time issues.
Use this sticky to collect general stuff going on around town (including Tucson's surrounding areas) in Jan/Feb. You can still start new posts about an event, especially if you need help planning something. This will just serve as an easy reference. (PLEASE NOTE: You CANNOT start a new post if you are self-promoting, or if you are somehow related to the person(s) that stand to profit from said event. This is considered spam by reddit. Don't do it.)
Comment with the details (date, time, location, admission fee, age restrictions, etc.) about any event/gathering/get-together that you think people may be interested in and I'll update the text of the main post so people can easily see what's going on.
Examples of good stuff to tell us about include:

Christmas lunch recommendations in the CBD

Hi Melbourne!
Me and my family (all adults) are heading down for the Boxing Day test, so we will be in Melbourne for Christmas Day, so we will need somewhere for Xmas lunch.
Budget is around $200-$250 pp (perhaps a little higher if drinks are included), but obviously if there's something good for less we will take it. Preference is for buffet or (at least) no fixed menu, while we all favour seafood as a Christmas food over the traditional roasts, Christmas pudding type fare, we would prefer both be available. While not opposed to the casino, if there's a good option in the CBD not at the Crown that would be preferred.
Apologies - the search function didn't turn out much, so I'm sorry if this has been asked before. Google searches turn up a lot of places, but not much in the way of recommendations.
Thanks for any help you can provide! :)
